The bow and forecastle configuration, which was developed in house, is our Groot Cross-Bow®. A significant number of vessels are already equipped with this successful concept, proving the advantages every day.
The configuration is based on the wave piercing principle. In several model tests it is proven that the Groot Cross-Bow® can offer a huge benefit in reducing the minimum required installed propulsion power. This can clearly be seen when comparing the main engine power to existing vessels of similar size. A direct result of the reduction in engine power is the lower consumption of fuel oil and thus reduced emissions.
Besides the reduction in minimum required power, other great benefits that the Groot Cross-Bow® offers are the improvement of comfort and the reduction of damage to cargo. This is achieved due to the fact that the bow no longer has the strong flare that a conventional bow has. Therefore the vertical accelerations are lowered. The reduction in these accelerations is especially noticeable in heavy weather.
The total concept is registered as the Groot Cross-Bow®.
